Overcoming limitations

Rex Betar has been fighting the odds since he was born. Born 10 weeks premature it didn’t look like Rex would make it far past birth, and when he did he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Rex required a wheelchair and several different walking aides throughout childhood. At 12, defying doctors expectations Rex taught himself to walk unaided. Rex went on to have a successful amateur wrestling career as a teen against able-bodied athletes, competing at several State titles.

Physical limitations aren’t the only limitations Rex has overcome. At 18 Rex was the first member of his family to complete high school. In 2015 Rex completed his 4th degree, and graduated from the University of Oxford.

Rex is a qualified rugby coach and is passionate about rugby, disability advocacy and seeing people reach their full potential.

Rex is now seeking to share his story through motivational speaking.

TESTIMONIALS

Rex has faced challenges in ways most of us can't even begin to imagine. The unfolding of his story is heartbreaking and heart opening: for the difficulties and the triumphs in the face of them. He tells it with humour, humility and courage. By the end everyone wants him to be wildly successful and also feel there is no reason in the world for them not to be too. In a word: inspiring, a word rarely used appropriately.
